Chicago Cubs Roster Moves 3/25

The Chicago Cubs tied the Seattle Mariners yesterday 9-9 in Cactus League play. They have two games remaining before they Head to Texas to prepare for Opening Day against the Texas Rangers. Today new Cubs Manager Craig Counsell announced the last two moves to finalize the Cubs roster, by optioning two players ahead of their game with the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Cubs roster now set the team can roll into the regular season with their eyes on the National League Central crown.

RHP – Hayden Wesneski

Wesneski was optioned to the Iowa Cubs the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs ahead of the game against the Cardinals today. This spring he appeared in five games starting two of those games he recorded one loss and one save. He pitched 10.1 innings with, 11 strikeouts, one walk, a 6.97 ERA, and a 1.45 WHIP in Cactus League play. Wesneski started 11 games last season for the Cubs going 3-5 with a 4.63 ERA. He pitched 89.1 total innings appearing in 34 games total with, 83 strikeouts, 32 walks, and a 1.28 WHIP on the year.

OF – Alexander Canario

Canario was also optioned to Iowa Cubs today before the game with the Cardinals. He appeared in 19 games this spring getting 42 at-bats with, nine runs, two doubles, one triple, two RBIs, nine walks, 10 strikeouts, three steals and slashed .238/.373/.333 with a .706 OPS in Cactus League play. Canario did play in six games last year for the Cubs with one double, one triple, one home run, and six RBIs.
