Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff Gives Update On Contract Negotiations
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is preparing to enter the final year of his new deal, but the general consensus is that the two sides will come to an agreement at some point.

However, it seems to be taking quite some time.

The Lions have locked up a couple of key offensive players this offseason, extending tackle Penei Sewell and reaching a long-term deal with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

But Goff has still been left out in the cold.

Perhaps not for long, though.

Goff provided an update on his negotiations with the Lions recently, and although it was vague, it at least showed that talks seem to be trending in the right direction.

“Just play it by ear,” Goff said, via Jonathan Adams of Heavy.com. “There have been discussions, but I’ll let them do their jobs.”

Detroit is coming off of its best season in three decades, as it won its first division title since 1993 and captured its first playoff win since January 1992.

Goff led the Lions all the way to the NFC Championship Game, where they ultimately blew a 24-7 halftime lead against the San Francisco 49ers.

The 29-year-old threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.9 in 2023.

Detroit initially acquired Goff in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams in March 2021, sending fellow quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Rams in the deal.’

Goff has been solid since joining the Lions, making the Pro Bowl in 2022.

Detroit is considered one of the favorites to make some noise in the NFC next season, but the locker room will certainly be happier and looser if the team is able to reach an agreement with Jared Goff.
