It has been confirmed that Simon Kjaer will leave AC Milan at the end of the season and thus the club will almost certainly sign someone to replace him, a report claims.

Kjaer arrived at Milan on a loan deal in the spring of 2020 together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and this was made into a permanent deal after some good performances. However, his time is drawing to a close as his agent confirmed yesterday that the Dane will be departing in June.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Diego Carlos of Aston Villa could well be the name that Milan go for as they look to replace the experience and leadership that Kjaer provided.

It was thought that Carlos might be linked to the possible arrival of Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach given that they worked together at Sevilla.

However, the paper are claiming that he is still a target despite the widespread reports which suggest Milan have pumped the breaks on their plans to hire the Basque coach and are looking at other options.

Carlos is 31 years of age and he cost Villa around €31m but he is no longer an immovable starter under Unai Emery since the arrival of Pau Torres last summer. He does still have over two years left on his deal, however.
